Burrows Paper Corporation
on the Moose River in Lyons Falls, New York

Burrows Paper Corporation, a private company started in Little Falls in 1919, now operates in five states and the Netherlands.   In a shrinking domestic paper industry, Burrows Paper Corporation remains a global leader in light weight specialty papers and packaging,

The US paper industry has seen at least 50 paper mills and machines shut in recent years, including a dozen in NYS.  Increased costs, particularly energy costs, and competition from low cost offshore suppliers like China, force mill closures and mean that Burrows Paper must work ever harder to maintain a competitive edge in its niche market of specialty light weight papers and packaging.   This is where quality counts.  Quality that sets Burrows apart from the competition.  Quality that creates demand for Burrows paper, even in China, despite its many low cost producers.

Burrows Paper’s Packaging Group continues to supply the quick service restaurant industry with sandwich wraps and F-Lite® clamshell boxes.  F-Lite®, the Burrows trademarked F-flute brand, is one of the thinnest corrugated flute profiles available today.  It is an environmentally friendly alternative to polystyrene, and its light weight is particularly significant in meeting the goal of an overall weight reduction in solid waste.  Although sustainability seems to be the new buzzword, it is not new at Burrows Paper Corporation. Processes have been in place at Burrows Paper to protect and preserve the environment through sustainable manufacturing and converting practices for more than forty years.  Using recycled fiber as part of its paper furnish may be a new practice for some of its competitors, but Burrows Paper has been doing it since the year 1919 when the company was first established.

An important goal at Burrows Paper is to produce as much renewable energy as it consumes from traditional energy sources.  Through its hydroelectric affiliates, Burrows Paper continues to manage the 13.1 MW hydro facility located adjacent to the Burrows paper mill on the Mohawk River in Little Falls and the 3.0 MW hydro facility adjacent to the Burrows paper mill on the Moose River in Lyons Falls, New York.  Wind and solar alternatives are being investigated, with other energy reduction projects scheduled to reduce the company’s carbon footprint.  Burrows Paper will reach its goal and will continue to make a difference in its local communities.
